More about crème cups and the Gripsholm pattern
Although these kind of sets
are often known as chocolate or custard cups, the certificate explains that the
first crème cups in Sweden were made in 1766 at Marieburg for jelly &
nougat crème - Rorstrand has produced this style of crème cup with
lid & dish since 1867
The decor is from the Rorstrand
Gripsholm service, which was manufactured in Stockholm from 1914-1925. Rorstrand’s Gripsholm design is inspired by
the magnificent dinner service gifted to King Gustav III at Gripsholm Castle by the Swedish

Swedish East India ship Terra Nova reached port in Gothenburg on 9

carried a 700-piece porcelain service made in Canton as a precious gift. The
decorative form and motif with the national coat of arms was a distinct
Gustavian style
