This stunning
red bodied Poole shape 484 jug is decorated in the pretty EM pattern, it dates
from the Carter, Stabler & Adams period and was made in the late 1920's
The impressed
backstamp dates it in the period 1925 to 1934 and it was decorated by Anne
Hatchard, her mark on the base was the one in use from 1918 to the late 1920's
- Anne had a long history with the pottery being there for 18 years from 1918
to 1936, then again for two more periods in the late 1940's and late 1950's
It is a nice
size, 8" (20cm) tall, 5.5" (14cm) diameter at the widest point, the
rim is 3.75" (9.5cm) diameter and it has a capacity of over 3 pints,
actually 66 fluid ounces (1875ml) when full to the brim
There are some
firing imperfections where there have been some air bubbles in the glaze and it
has some light crazing, none of which are unusual in pieces from this period
and are only noticeable under close inspection - I only mention them as a
matter of accuracy, otherwise it is in excellent undamaged condition with no
chips, cracks or restoration
A beautiful jug
in a very sought after pattern that will make a fine addition to your
collection or a lovely gift
