This wonderful
Poole shape 286 red bodied jam pot base dates from the Carter, Stabler &
Adams period, was made in the 1920's and is decorated in the DO pattern
The red clay
body dates it to being made no later than 1934, the impressed factory backstamp
was the one in use from 1924 to 1950 and the paintress mark is that of Gladys
Jeffery (Carter) who was with the pottery from 1926 to 1930
Overall it is
4.5" (11cm) tall to the top of the lid and the rim is 2.75" (7cm)
diameter
It has the
crazing which is very common in pieces of this age and it has developed an
attractive speckled look similar to the Seagull pattern used in later years to
decorate various pieces - there is a very small chip at the bottom that you can
see in the seventh picture - otherwise it is in good condition for its age with
no cracks or restoration
Worth a lot
more without that little chip, it is a very nice piece seldom seen on the
market that will make a fine addition to your collection or a lovely gift
